LIVE IN STUDIO PT.2 0840: Here's another hour-plus of performances recorded live on the Dr. Demento Show from 1976 to 2004. Many of these haven't been heard since the original air dates, and very few are available anywhere else, even online. Also notable: the Dr. Demento debut of the delightful Max Raabe. Oct 5, 2008

TOP TEN 0839: Our online only "Rarities By Requests" set is worth your special attention this week. "A Tale of the Ticker," one of the few truly amusing songs about the stock market, was recorded in September 1929 just before the s**t in the fan for the biggest Wall Street dump of all time (so far!) Also featured is that timeless epic of backwoods automotive seduction, "Larry, Move Your Hand" and a primer on averting DWI problems, "Backwards XYZ's". I haven't even mentioned those four songs in a row about New Jersey, and the ones about Sarah Palin. And yes, the Top Ten for September is here. Sep 28, 2008

BEATLES 0838: We salute the Beatles this week, with some of the best (and worst) of the dozens of topical songs written about the group during its glorious heyday. We've also got a couple of Sarah Palin songs (more to come, we imagine)...and such hard to find Demented favorites as "The Bears," "Rappin' Duke" and "Oh Boy Do I Love Bears" along with (for the first time on the show) "This Is Planet Earth" by Jerry Samuels (aka Napoleon XIV). ONE-HIT WONDERS 0837: We salute One-Hit Wonders this week. A One-Hit Wonder is an artist who has great success with one song, then never has another hit worth reckoning with. In the 1950s and 1960s there were a great many one-hit wonders. Thatalso happened to be the Golden Age of Novelty Records, and we salute many of those. Toward the end of the show we also salute artists who had a single song place high on one or more of the Dr. Demento Show's year-end countdowns, but never enjoyed a followup hit. In the early part of the show we salute Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 17), and tip our top hat to the late Jerry Reed. Sep 14, 2008

FOOTBALL 0836: We salute football season with hilarious pigskin perennials by Andy Griffith, Tom Lehrer, George Carlin and Adam Sandler, and lots of lesser known surprises including two different songs imagining Jesus Christ as a football player. Non-football rarities include radio personality Don Imus' first record, from 1971, a 1950s track by Milwaukee legend Mad Man Michaels, and "The Old Sow Song" from 1937 complete with gloriously unprintable mouth noises. TOP TEN 0835: Here's our Top Ten for August 2008...and since Sept.1 falls on a Monday, it's Labor Day weekend too. This show features several all-time Labor Day favorites, including "The Bricklayer's Story" and "Working Where the Sun Don't Shine" (the colo-rectal surgeon's song). We also salute the man who works the hardest on Labor Day, Mr. Jerry Lewis...we have a short interview with Mike Elliott, whose 1986 Demented hit "Rock Me Jerry Lewis" is the ultimate telethon tribute. We also spin a very rare and hilarious Martin Mull item, and say a fond goodbye to "Engineer Bill" Stulla, who died this week at age 97. Aug 31, 2008

BACK TO SCHOOL 0834: Education may never feel quite the same after you hear our back-to-school show. We feature such classroom collectibles as the explosive "Roger Boom," a live performance of Weird Al's "School Cafeteria" from a 1979 Dr. D show on KMET-Los Angeles, and Mike Condello's unreleased "Public School Lunch" along with such well-loved favorites as "Charlie Brown," "Lunchlady Land" and "Bright College Days." In our first half, the Dr D. debut of Luke Ski's all-star tribute to "Battlestar Galactica," two brilliant new satires by Randy Newman and a little salute to the late Isaac Hayes. Aug 24, 2008

CATS 0833: We salute cats on this week's show. All kinds of cats, and all kinds of opinions about those lovably contrary critters. We also present this week a salute to the late Steve Goodman, and a most remarkable book about Steve that was published recently. Hard-to-find treats include "Marijuana Munchies," "Bubbling Brain Cells" and "(It's Not Nice To Fool) Mother Nature," the latter two on the online version only (the one you can access here). 0831 CHICKENS: We celebrate chickens this week. We haven't done that in awhile and I was amazed at how many chicken songs there are in the Archives. Many of the best and one or two of the worst are here. Our online-only rarities segment (near the end of the show this time) has still more chicken songs, including an out-of-print Bruce Springsteen song and a Dennis Weaver rarity. Aug 3, 2008

LIVE IN STUDIO 0829: An extra-special show this week: Every song in the second hour of the show was recorded live on the Dr Demento Show, between the mid-1970s and the mid-2000's. Many of these performances haven't been heard since their original broadcast years ago. Tom Stankus' "Existential Blues" is especially exciting, with lots of elements not heard on the currently available recorded version (including those "Impossible Dream" lines). Along with the familiar September 1980 version of "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Another One Rides The Bus," online listeners (only) can hear Al's encore performance from April 1981...like "Existential Blues," this performance also has some extra added attractions. The first half of the show features, among other things, a virtually brand new Dickie Goodman production (!) Jul 20, 2008

NO CLOTHES 0828: We get naked (or rather, nekked) on the radio this week...our subject is nudity, as celebrated in songs from the 1930s to the 2000's. "Rarities By Request" features Harry Lauder, who for three decades was the most famous, highest paid stage comedian in the English speaking world, and a rare and raunchy tune from the Caribbean called "Sixpence." CLOTHES/GEORGE CARLIN 0827: Along with a closetful of songs about clothes (as previously scheduled), this show includes a tribute to the late George Carlin, with three all-time favorite Carlin recordings plus excerpts from Dr. Demento Shows that featured George as a guest. In addition to the tribute heard on the radio show, online listeners will hear an additional 20+ minutes of George Carlin, including two uncensored recordings (including the one that actually led to that infamous Supreme Court decision) and additional interview segments. This extra material will be heard just before the final segment of the show. Explicit language - parental guidance suggested. "Rarities By Request" will return next week. Jul 6, 2008

SUMMER 0825: Summer is here (officially, at last!) and we celebrate with a hot stack of summertime songs, including some to help plan your vacation, and a rare live tape of Allan Sherman's "Hello Mudduh" (recorded after Allan apparently imbibed some beverages not normally served at summer camp). Rarities By Request, for our online listeners only, features a wild and crazy Kay Kyser track not heard in 25+ years, and a hilarious bit from ca. 1960 about a sportscaster whose disgruntled assistant wreaks havoc upon the broadcast. FATHER'S DAY 0824: We celebrate Father's Day with an hour of songs about fathers, and men in general. Warning: Dad will need a healthy sense of humor to handle a couple of these. For our online listeners, Rarities By Request features a couple of outhouse oratorios, a little-known but delightful Coasters song and a nicely noirish Logan Whitehurst piece from one of his early collections.
